New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) to carry out regular monitoring of environmental norm violations by the Noida Authority and take action, including imposing penalties.
The tribunal also held the Noida Authority and Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL) responsible for road damage that has resulted in severe dust pollution across the city.
A principal bench comprising chairperson Justice Prakash Srivastava and expert member Dr A. Senthil Vel asked the UPPCB to submit a detailed report on environmental compensation imposed for violations by the Noida Authority so far, as well as fresh violations until the next hearing scheduled for 13 March 2026.
The order followed a plea filed by environmental activist Amit Gupta, who flagged repeated non-compliance during activities such as cable laying, pipe repairs, optical fibre work and gas pipeline construction.
Gupta submitted photographs showing damaged roads and dust emissions contributing to high PM10 levels.
He also pointed out that while penalties of about Rs 28 crore were imposed between 2017 and 2025, only Rs 1.06 crore has been recovered so far.
UPPCB’s counsel acknowledged violations and said the authority needs greater sensitisation.
