Kolkata: The West Bengal government on 1 December issued a fresh RFP (global tender) for the Tajpur deep-sea port.
The government has promised 1000 acres of freehold land to the operator for the port development and industrial facilities
The other terms of reference largely remain unchanged from the initial tender of 2021. BlackBricks has been appointed as the transaction adviser for this project.
The West Bengal State Maritime Board has invited bids from experienced and qualified bidders for the proposed port development on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis with flexibility in design plan and tariff.
The bidder must have completed a port project worth at least Rs 8000 crore and above.
With a concession period of 99 years, the state government will support the developer for the rail and road linkage to the proposed port.
The pre-bid meeting for the port would be on 14 January 2026. Bidder submissions will start on 1 February and the bidding will open on 3 March.
In the earlier tender, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) emerged as the winning bidder, but the plan was later scrapped. JSW Infrastructure was the other participant in the earlier bidding process.
In fact, in the earlier tender process, a provisional letter of intent to award was issued to APSEZ in October 2022.
But the Bengal cabinet decided to issue a fresh tender for the development of the mega greenfield deep-sea port earlier this year.
Tajpur port is a Rs 25,000+ crore project providing direct employment for 25,000 people.
Its location at 5 km off NH 116 and a draft of over 12 m would make it easily accessible from North Bengal and the upcoming Dankuni freight corridor.
