New Delhi: X has reportedly submitted its response to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) following the government’s flagging of instances of sexually explicit content generated by its AI chatbot, Grok.
MeitY had sought an action taken report after raising concerns over the nature of certain responses produced by the chatbot.
According to reports, in its submission, X attributed the issue to user misuse rather than any systemic flaw in the platform. The company has assured the government that it will take corrective steps, including suspending and removing accounts found violating platform policies if such behaviour persists.
The matter came under scrutiny after users were seen prompting Grok to generate sexually compromising, morphed images of women and children, which were widely circulated without consent, particularly around New Year’s Eve.
The incidents triggered serious concerns around online safety, privacy and AI-enabled sexual abuse.
It was also reported that following the backlash, Grok said it had restricted certain features and implemented stricter safeguards. MeitY is currently examining X’s response and is expected to decide on further action after its review.
