Noida, Apr 11 (APAC Media): Apple is gearing up to make its long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone segment, with reports suggesting its first foldable iPhone could be unveiled in September 2026.
The anticipated launch may align with the company’s flagship iPhone event, making it a landmark moment as Apple approaches its 50th anniversary.
According to recent reports, the device often referred to as the “iPhone Fold” will feature a book-style design, similar to existing foldable smartphones. It is expected to include a 7.8-inch OLED inner display and a smaller 5.5-inch outer screen, offering users both a tablet-like experience and a compact smartphone form factor.
A major highlight of the upcoming device is expected to be its cutting-edge display technology. Reports suggest Apple is focusing on reducing or possibly eliminating the visible crease typically seen in foldable smartphones.
The company is also said to be developing a robust hinge system using liquid metal, designed to enhance durability and overall performance.

It is also expected to house a 5,500mAh battery, the largest ever in an iPhone, alongside a dual rear camera setup and multiple front-facing cameras.
Interestingly, Apple could forgo Face ID on this model in favour of a Touch ID sensor embedded in the power button, potentially contributing to a more streamlined design. The device is also expected to offer advanced multitasking capabilities, akin to iPad-style functionality, to make full use of its foldable display.
However, recent reports suggest that Apple is encountering engineering hurdles during the testing phase, which could lead to delays in production or restrict initial availability. Despite these challenges, some sources indicate the company remains on course for a 2026 launch.
The foldable iPhone is expected to carry a premium price tag, likely starting between $2,000 and $2,400 (roughly Rs 2 lakh or higher), making it one of the most expensive smartphones in Apple’s lineup.
If successful, Apple’s move into the foldable smartphone segment could significantly reshape the premium device market and heighten competition with established players such as Samsung and Huawei.
