Shimla, May 26 (APAC Media): In a significant bureaucratic move, senior IAS officer Sanjay Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh. The appointment was formalised through a notification issued by the Personnel Department with immediate effect.
A 1998-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, Gupta was previously functioning as the Acting Chief Secretary since October 2025 while simultaneously serving as Additional Chief Secretary and holding charge of the Town and Country Planning and Housing Department.Â
Known as one of the senior-most IAS officers in the state cadre, the senior bureaucrat originally hails from Haryana. He holds a graduate degree in Civil Engineering along with a diploma in Management.
Over the course of his administrative career, Gupta has served in several important positions across the Himachal Pradesh government, including roles such as Chairman, Principal Secretary, Managing Director, and Joint Secretary, among others.
His appointment as Chief Secretary reflects the trust placed in his administrative experience and extensive contribution to governance in the state.
