Bhopal, June 23 (APAC Media): The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, has cleared a series of significant proposals aimed at strengthening education, supporting farmers, and expanding welfare programmes across the state.
The approved measures involve development expenditure of nearly Rs 5,960 crore and include the continuation of key social welfare schemes, expansion of educational infrastructure, reforms in crop loan distribution and sustained support for the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The decisions are aligned with the state’s long-term development roadmap under the Viksit Madhya Pradesh@2047 vision.
Rs 1,740 Crore Approved for Marriage Assistance Schemes
Among the major decisions, the Cabinet approved Rs 1,740.57 crore for the continued implementation of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Sahayata Yojana and Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana for a five-year period beginning April 1, 2026.
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Sahayata Yojana has been in operation since April 2006 and provides financial assistance of Rs 55,000 per beneficiary for the marriage of eligible daughters, widows, and abandoned women from poor and economically weaker families through mass marriage ceremonies.
Official data shows that between 2021-22 and 2025-26, more than 1.72 lakh beneficiaries received assistance exceeding Rs 989.80 crore under the scheme.
Major School Upgradation Programme Approved
The Cabinet also granted in-principle approval for a large-scale expansion of educational infrastructure across the state.
For the 2026-27 academic session, 75 government middle schools will be upgraded to high schools, while 100 high schools will be elevated to higher secondary schools.
The programme will continue over the following two academic years. During both 2027-28 and 2028-29, an additional 75 secondary schools and 100 high schools will be upgraded annually.
The school modernisation initiative will involve an estimated expenditure of Rs 635.24 crore.
The expansion forms part of the state’s broader objective of achieving a 100 per cent Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) by 2029 under the Viksit Madhya Pradesh@2047 framework.
Crop Loan Reforms to Benefit Farmers
In a move aimed at simplifying access to agricultural credit, the Cabinet has made changes to the state’s short-term crop loan scheme, which provides loans to farmers at zero per cent interest.
From the 2026-27 financial year onwards, separate repayment schedules for Kharif and Rabi loans will be replaced by a unified annual credit limit system. The revised arrangement will include distinct sub-limits for cash and input-based assistance.
Continued Support for Public Distribution System
The Cabinet approved Rs 3,580.07 crore towards transportation and commission reimbursements under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), ensuring uninterrupted support for food distribution across the state.
The Cabinet decisions reflect the state government’s emphasis on inclusive development through investments in education, social welfare, agriculture, food security and infrastructure.
