Mumbai, June 20 (APAC Media): In a significant move to modernise school education, the Maharashtra School Education Department has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Google for Education to provide artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology training to more than four lakh teachers across the state over the next 18 months.
The initiative is aimed at preparing educators for the future by improving their digital competencies and encouraging the use of AI-powered teaching methods in classrooms. The programme seeks to strengthen AI literacy, digital skills, and technology-enabled pedagogy among teachers in government-run and aided schools.
Training to be offered in three languages
To ensure broad accessibility and smooth implementation, the training content will be localised and delivered in Marathi, Hindi, and English. This multilingual approach is expected to help teachers from diverse regions effectively adopt modern digital tools in teaching.
Under the programme, selected master trainers will first receive specialised instruction through Google’s AI Educator Series. These trained educators will then lead large-scale capacity-building sessions for teachers across Maharashtra.
No financial burden on the state government
The LoI was signed by Chris Phillips, Vice President of Google for Education, and Tahsildar, Joint Secretary in the School Education Department, in the presence of School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse.
Bhuse said the entire training programme will be provided free of cost by Google, ensuring no financial burden on the state government. He also stressed that the Maharashtra government will retain full control over the initiative while prioritising digital safety for teachers.
