Noida, June 12 (APAC Media): Indian equities Sensex and Nifty staged a strong rally on Friday, June 12, 2026, with benchmark indices surging sharply in late trade amid improved global risk sentiment and easing crude oil prices.
The BSE Sensex climbed over 1,500 points during the session, while the Nifty50 reclaimed the 23,500 level, extending gains across sectors.
Market breadth remained positive, with buying interest seen in large-cap as well as mid- and small-cap stocks.
According to market participants, the rally was underpinned by a combination of global and domestic triggers, including easing geopolitical tensions and a decline in crude oil prices.
Sentiment was further buoyed by optimism over US–Iran diplomatic engagement, which lifted risk appetite on expectations that reduced conflict risks could help stabilise energy supplies and ease global inflationary pressures (BSE).
A sharp correction in international crude oil benchmarks also supported sentiment. Brent crude slipped to multi-week lows, easing concerns over India’s import bill and inflation outlook.
Market experts noted that lower oil prices typically improve corporate margins and support macroeconomic stability, which is positive for equity valuations.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers in select sessions, adding to upward momentum, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continued to provide steady support (BSE).
Short-covering in recently underperforming stocks further accelerated the intraday gains.
Sectorally, banking, financial services, oil marketing companies, and capital goods stocks led the rally. Metal and energy counters also witnessed strong buying, while defensive sectors such as FMCG and pharmaceuticals saw relatively muted movement.
Broader markets outperformed expectations, with midcap and smallcap indices participating in the uptrend, indicating strong risk-on sentiment across the investor base.
Analysts said the latest upmove reflects improved global cues, liquidity support, and easing external risks.
However, they cautioned that volatility may persist in the near term depending on geopolitical developments and global commodity price movements.
Overall, the session marked one of the strongest gains in recent weeks, as investors repositioned portfolios amid expectations of a more stable global economic environment.
