Hyderabad, June 10 (APAC Media): The Telangana government has begun preparing master plans for eight destinations under its 27 Special Tourism Areas programme.
The initiative seeks to strengthen tourism infrastructure and create unique experiences for visitors.
A review meeting involving officials and experts was recently held in Hyderabad to discuss the plans.
Eight Destinations Of Telangana in First Phase
The first phase will cover eight locations:
- Vikarabad
- Somasila-Alampur circuit
- Warangal-Ramappa
- Nagarjunasagar
- Yadadri-Pochampally
- Adilabad Tribal Cluster
- Bhadrachalam
- Kaleshwaram
The master plans will be tailored to each destination and will promote heritage, nature, spiritual, cultural and adventure tourism.

Focus on Experiences, Not Just Sightseeing
“We must promote ‘slow tourism’ that combines nature, heritage, spirituality, and adventure sports. Rather than tourists just visiting a place and leaving, we are designing comprehensive master plans to ensure they savor the nature, history, culture, spirituality, and local lifestyle there, gaining an unforgettable experience,”Jupally Krishna Rao, Tourism Minister
Officials have also been asked to study successful tourism projects from around the world and adopt ideas suited to Telangana’s destinations.
The government is also exploring the tourism potential of Bhongir Fort and the surrounding hills. The area could emerge as a hub for heritage and adventure tourism.
Somasila-Alampur Circuit Emerges as Key Focus
Among the eight destinations, the Somasila-Alampur circuit has emerged as a key focus area due to its strong potential for water based and experiential tourism.
Several activities are being planned, including:
- Cruise tourism
- Water sports
- Trekking trails
- Eco-tourism experiences
- Destination weddings
The government is also planning to connect attractions such as Jataprolu and the Madanagopala Swamy Temple with the Krishna backwaters tourism circuit.
The master plans will guide future investments and infrastructure development. The state hopes to emerge as a diverse and experience driven tourism destination.
