New Delhi, July 17(APAC Media): Apple could bring one of the biggest upgrades to the iPad mini in years. A new report suggests the company is preparing to launch an OLED version of the compact tablet as early as October, while refreshed iPad Air and entry-level iPad models are also in development.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPad mini, internally known as J510, is expected to become the first non-Pro iPad to feature an OLED display. Until now, Apple has limited OLED screens to its iPhone lineup and the iPad Pro models introduced in 2024. The move could improve display quality with deeper blacks, better contrast and lower power consumption, while the overall design is expected to remain largely unchanged.
The report also says Apple is working on a new entry-level iPad, codenamed J581. The device is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027 and may receive a processor upgrade without major design changes.
Apple is also preparing refreshed 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models, internally codenamed J807 and J837. These models are expected to debut alongside the next-generation iPad Pro lineup in spring. While detailed specifications are still unknown, the report says Apple plans to bring OLED display technology to the iPad Air in the future. The standard iPad, however, is likely to continue with an LCD display to maintain a lower price point.
The latest report also indicates that Apple is developing new Apple Pencil accessories, pointing to a broader refresh of its iPad lineup over the coming months. If the timeline remains unchanged, the OLED iPad mini could be one of Apple’s key hardware launches later this year.
