New Delhi, July 23(APAC Media): HCLTech is preparing to set up its first company-owned data centre in India with a proposed investment of Rs 730 crore in Bhubaneswar, marking a major step in the company’s data centre strategy. The project is expected to be developed alongside a Global Development Centre (GDC) and could generate around 6,000 high-skilled jobs.
According to reports, HCLTech will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government for the integrated campus. The proposed facility is expected to come up in Info Valley-II and will support AI workloads, cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital engineering and enterprise technology services for global clients.
The move is significant because HCLTech has so far focused on managing and operating data centre services for customers rather than owning such facilities in India. The project also aligns with the company’s recently announced plan to invest Rs 3,500 crore through new subsidiaries to build a larger data centre business with up to 50 MW capacity.
The investment adds to a series of data centre projects planned in Bhubaneswar, which is emerging as a key technology hub in eastern India. The city already hosts government data centre infrastructure, while projects by the Reserve Bank of India and the Adani Group are also underway.
The HCLTech proposal was among the industrial projects recently cleared by Odisha’s State Level Single Window Clearance Authority. If implemented as planned, the project is expected to strengthen the state’s digital infrastructure while supporting growing demand for AI-ready computing capacity in India.
