New Delhi, September 17 (APAC Media): Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB Hospital) in Dilshad Garden is set for a major healthcare infrastructure upgrade with the Delhi Cabinet approving a Rs 244.87-crore project to build a new 250-bed super-speciality-cum-trauma block on the existing hospital campus.
The project, approved under Phase IV of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), is aimed at expanding emergency, trauma and specialised medical services in east Delhi, where GTB Hospital serves a large number of patients.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who chaired the Cabinet meeting, said the new facility will strengthen access to 24×7 emergency and trauma care once it becomes operational.
22,550-Sq-Metre Healthcare Facility
The proposed block will span approximately 22,550 square metres and feature a basement, ground floor and six additional floors. It has been designed as an integrated facility combining emergency care, diagnostics, critical care, surgery and specialised outpatient services.
The building will house 250 beds, 48 specialist OPD rooms and nine modern operation theatres, creating additional capacity for both emergency and planned medical treatment.
The basement will include a blood bank and laboratory facilities, while the ground floor will accommodate a 24×7 emergency department along with diagnostic services.
72-Bed ICU to Boost Critical Care Capacity
One of the key features of the new block will be a 72-bed intensive care unit (ICU) on the second floor. The expanded critical-care infrastructure is expected to provide additional capacity for patients requiring round-the-clock monitoring and specialised treatment.
The fourth and fifth floors will accommodate 175 general and private ward beds, allowing patients to be admitted after emergency treatment, surgery or specialist consultations.
Nine Operation Theatres and Specialist OPDs
The new facility will also feature nine modern operation theatres, further expanding GTB Hospital’s surgical capacity.
With 48 specialist OPD rooms, patients will also have access to specialised consultations within the new block. The combination of emergency services, diagnostic facilities, ICU care, surgical infrastructure and inpatient wards is designed to create a comprehensive treatment ecosystem for critical and specialised cases.
