New Delhi, August 4 (APAC Media): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated ‘Arpan’, a donation centre for used clothes, at Punjabi Bagh West Metro Station.
This marks a major step towards promoting sustainable waste management and a circular economy in the national capital.
The initiative encourages citizens to donate clean, wearable clothes that can be reused, recycled, or upcycled, helping reduce textile waste while promoting responsible consumption. It also aims to generate sustainable livelihood opportunities for women through the collection, sorting, and processing of donated garments.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister highlighted the importance of community participation in reducing waste and conserving resources. She said the initiative aligns with the Delhi Government’s commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city through environmentally responsible practices.
As part of the programme, 10 ‘Arpan’ donation centres will be established across Delhi Metro stations, making it easier for residents to contribute to the campaign during their daily commute. The strategically located collection centres are expected to encourage greater public participation and increase the reuse of wearable clothing.
The Delhi Government has appealed to citizens to donate their clean, wearable clothes at the Arpan centres and become active partners in supporting environmental conservation while empowering women through sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The initiative reflects the government’s focus on waste reduction, resource conservation, and social inclusion, while advancing the principles of the circular economy by extending the life cycle of clothing and reducing the environmental impact of textile waste.
