Bhubaneswar, August 17 (APAC Media): In its recent cabinet meeting, the Odisha government has amended key industrial policies to accelerate investments in semiconductor manufacturing and renewable energy.
The proposed reforms aim to make Odisha more competitive in attracting large domestic and international investors while supporting India’s broader ambitions in electronics manufacturing, energy transition, and industrial modernisation.
The amendments are expected to enhance investment incentives, simplify approval processes, improve land allocation mechanisms, and strengthen infrastructure support for priority industries.
Wider Semiconductor Ecosystem in Focus
The Odisha government will target opportunities across the semiconductor value chain rather than limiting its focus to fabrication facilities. The state is expected to seek investments in semiconductor materials, chemicals, packaging, testing, electronics components, and other ancillary industries.
Developing these segments could help create a broader technology manufacturing ecosystem, with semiconductor projects generating additional activity for suppliers, logistics providers, construction firms, service companies, and technology partners.
Renewable Energy to Form Second Pillar
Renewable energy will be the second major focus of the revised policy framework. Odisha is seeking to accelerate investments in solar, wind, hybrid, and energy-storage projects to support industrial growth while reducing carbon intensity.
Expanded renewable capacity could help meet rising electricity demand, improve energy security, and attract energy-intensive industries that increasingly prefer access to clean power to meet sustainability and compliance requirements.
Infrastructure and Skills Key to Implementation
Infrastructure development will play a central role in the proposed reforms. Semiconductor projects require reliable power, high-quality water, transportation connectivity, advanced waste-management systems, and specialised industrial infrastructure. Renewable energy projects, meanwhile, need adequate transmission capacity and effective grid integration.
The government is also expected to strengthen skill development through partnerships with universities, technical institutions, and industry.Â
The policy move comes as Indian states compete to attract semiconductor and clean energy investments through fiscal incentives, infrastructure support, and faster regulatory clearances.
