Gandhinagar, September 30 (APAC Media): The Gujarat Government has appointed Ajay Bhadoo as the Managing Director of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) Ltd. Bhadoo is a 1999 batch IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre.
Bhadoo was recently repatriated to the Gujarat Government and placed under the Industries and Mines Department before being given the new assignment.
He replaces Roopwant Singh (2003 batch), who was serving as GMDC Managing Director with additional charge.
Ajay Bhadoo Returns to Gujarat After Central Deputation
Bhadoo returns to the Gujarat administration after holding several senior positions at the Centre. Before his repatriation, he was serving as Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce.
He was also appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) in March 2025.
During his central deputation, Bhadoo served in several key roles, including:
- Deputy Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India
- Joint Secretary, President’s Secretariat
- Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce
- CEO, Government e-Marketplace (GeM)
His central government assignments covered areas including commerce, digital public procurement, election administration and institutional governance.
IAS Ajay Bhadoo has also held several important positions in the state administration.
His previous Gujarat assignments include:
- Municipal Commissioner, Vadodara
- Vice Chairman and CEO, Gujarat Maritime Board
- Secretary to the Chief Minister
- Municipal Commissioner, Rajkot
- District Collector, Mehsana
These roles have given him experience in urban administration, district governance, infrastructure, maritime development, public policy and government operations.
Ajay Bhadoo’s Academic Background
Bhadoo holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree in Business Law from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru.
His academic qualifications, along with his experience across state and central government institutions, span administrative, policy and governance responsibilities.
