New Delhi, September 10 (APAC Media): India and Morocco have taken a significant step to deepen bilateral defence cooperation with the inaugural meeting of the Joint Defence Committee (JDC) in New Delhi.
The meeting provides a structured mechanism for expanding military and defence engagement between the two countries as they approach the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations in 2027.
Focus on Military and Defence Cooperation
The two sides discussed cooperation in military training and education, peacekeeping operations, exercises, medical cooperation, cyber defence and defence industries.
They also agreed to explore new avenues to strengthen defence ties.
A key focus was expanding defence industrial cooperation, including opportunities for co-production, joint ventures, technology collaboration, maintenance and sustainment of defence equipment.
The move could open new opportunities for industrial partnerships while strengthening defence manufacturing and technology linkages between India and Morocco.
Senior Delegations Explore Defence Opportunities
The meeting was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Ministry of Defence, and Brigadier General Abdellah Athmani, Chief of the 2nd Bureau of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces.
The Indian delegation included representatives from the Armed Forces, Integrated Defence Staff, Department of Defence Production, Armed Forces Medical Services, DRDO and Ministry of External Affairs.
The Moroccan delegation is visiting India from September 7 to 10, 2026. During the visit, Brigadier General Athmani paid tribute at the National War Memorial, while the delegation also visited DPSU Bhawan and interacted with Indian defence industries.
The JDC marks an important move towards broadening India-Morocco defence relations from military exchanges to long-term industrial, technological and capability-building cooperation.
