New Delhi: World Health Organisation ( WHO) is impressed with Dharavi Model. Strict lockdown, detailed tracking, containment of mahallas and testing in large numbers, this has lead to the success of containment strategy in tackling corona in Mumbai’s Dharavi area.

The examples of Italy, Spain, South Korea and India’s biggest slum showed that however bad a outbreak was, the virus could still be reined in through aggressive action, said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Dharavi is one of the biggest slums in Asia.
Dharavi has a population of more than 9 lakhs in an area of mere 2.5 sqkm. During the initial outbreak of corona in India, Dharavi posed danger of community transmission. But with right methodology and strict lockdown and tracing and containment strategy, the situation has rapidly improved in last 2 months. On one hand, corona positive cases are going down and on other hand, recovery rate has also spiked up. This result has earned WHO’s praise for Dharavi, opines experts.
