Warangal: Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) introduces an eco-friendly trend ‘Cycle for Change’ that would not only help the corporation workers and staff keep fit but also reduce huge fuel financial burden on the corporation and also improve sanitation.
Pamela Satpathy, IAS, Commissioner, GWMC & CEO, Greater Warangal Smart City Corporation Ltd distributed 100 bicycles to Sanitary Jawans on Friday for daily inspection and sanitary rounds.
“We have given trendy cycles for free to our Sanitation Jawans, who on daily basis have to monitor sanitation work and have discontinued fuel coupons which were being given to them earlier. With the slow cycling movement, the sanitation works will also be monitored better. This will not only help the staff keep fit (who generally don’t find time to exercise) but also a huge fuel burden on the corporation,” said GWMC Commissioner.
These cycles are being sourced from the executive agencies of Greater Warangal Smart City Corporation Ltd under the Corporate Social Responsibility move. “More 400 cycles will be given out to our other field level staff including water supply and electrical wing among others,” added Mrs. Pamela.
Greater Warangal city which has over 58 wards in its limits, is among the active participating cities of the ‘Cycle for Change’ by Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and ‘Fit India Mission ‘Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. There’s a trend running in Warangal where even the MLA’s and other key officials have been using bicycle to their important council meetings and promoting the sport.
