Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that all subsidised fertilisers, including Urea and DAP (Diammonium phosphate), will be sold from October under a single brand name ‘Bharat’ as part of the government’s “One Nation, One Fertiliser” initiative under the fertiliser subsidy scheme ‘Pradhanmantri Bhartiya Janurvarak Pariyojna’ (PMBJP).
The initiative is aimed at ensuring timely availability of soil nutrients to farmers and reducing the freight subsidy. This will also strengthen the real-time monitoring of movement, availability, and sales of fertiliser in a state. The centre has given year-end time to all the companies for clearing their old stock.
The minister said, “The whole idea behind introducing a single brand is to stop this criss-cross movement, ensure companies sell their products in close vicinity of their manufacturing units and avoid unnecessary transportation.”
The initiative will increase and ensure the availability of fertilisers, streamline the supply process without bottlenecks, bring uniformity in fertiliser supply, control unhealthy competition among companies, and reduce the freight subsidy burden.
The companies are allowed to display their name, brand, logo and other relevant product information only on one-third space of their bags. The remaining two-third space will be occupied by the Bharat brand and PMBJP logo.
