Ranchi: Jharkhand Government launched 80 district-level Schools of Excellence on May 2. Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren launched the initiative at Thakur Vishwanath Shahdeo High School in Dhurwa, Ranchi. According to the government’s statement, 325 block-level leader schools and 4,091 gram panchayat-level model schools will be inaugurated across the state.
All 80 schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). All students will be taught in English-medium and be imparted vocational training in 11 trades. According to the official statement, these include agriculture, information technology, informational technology enable services, apparel, make-up, home furnishing, media and entertainment, automotive, tourism and hospitality, beauty and wellness, multi-skilling, electronics and hardware, retail and healthcare.
The teaching curriculum includes on-job training through industrial field visits. The visits will provide students access to employment opportunities based on their interests.
According to the official statement, “The Hon’ble Chief Minister himself conducted a fortnightly review of the construction of the schools, training of teachers, CBSE affiliation and a host of other steps undertaken for the fulfillment of this cornerstone effort in the education sector”. For this, principals were given online training by the National Centre for School Leadership. This also included two phases of training with Azim Premji University (APU) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs).
The overall target of this process is to bring the education quality of government schools at par with the private schools of the state.
