New Delhi: NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, recently integrated a wholly owned subsidiary named NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL), with primary focus on spearheading renewable energy initiatives.
During the inaugural board meeting of the company, crucial managerial appointments, along with the company’s official logo were approved and adopted. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman of NIGEL, unveiled the company’s logo and emphasised that this new subsidiary, with its unwavering commitment to renewable energy ventures, will focus on the growth of renewable power generation.
With the current positive outlook in the industry, the expansion of renewable energy, including storage systems such as Pumped Hydro System and Battery Energy Storage System, will proceed side-by-side.
He also mentioned that, in accordance with the Optimal Energy Mix Report 2030 from the CEA, Ministry of Power, there is a projected capacity of 41.65 GW for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) on the grid, presenting a significant opportunity for storage system development.
The subsidiary has plans to establish renewable energy projects with a capacity of 6 GW by the year 2030, with 2 GW of projects already in progress at various locations across the country.
