New Delhi: With the aim of enhancing India’s manufacturing prowess and introducing new specialised products in the defence sector, Airbus S.A.S. has initiated a partnership with Tata Advanced Systems, fostering a deeper cooperation.
The collaboration is currently focusing on the C295 military transport aircraft and involves the establishment of a final assembly line in Vadodara, slated to commence operations by November 2024. This facility will dedicatedly produce the C295 aircraft, focusing on advancing electric harness technology.
This deal also includes the delivery of an Indian-manufactured unit by 2026, with component production already underway at Airbus’s Hyderabad facility, expanding upon a 2021 agreement, where the Indian Air Force committed ₹21,395 crore for the procurement of 56 C295 aircraft, aiming to replace their ageing fleet.
Aligned with India’s national defence strategies, focusing on indigenisation lists, the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020, and the establishment of defence industrial corridors, these strategic endeavours aim not only to modernise the country’s military assets but also to solidify its role as a key player in defence technology manufacturing.
