New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Pravin Madhukar has been posted as the new Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to a notification by the government, he will be serving in this role for the period of five years from the date of assuming charge of this post, or till he receives further orders, whichever is earlier.
The official statement said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Department of Personnel & Training for Induction of Shrl PrayIn Madhukar Pawar, IPS (KTK:2003) to the post of Joint Director, CBI for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
The Centre had appointed Praveen Sood, Karnataka’s incumbent director general of police (DGP), as the next director of the CBI, for a period of two years. He took charge of this post after the previous CBI chief, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, completed his tenure on May 25 this year.
According to the norm, the director of CBI is chosen for a fixed tenure of two years by a panel that includes the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the Lok Sabha opposition leader. The tenure can be extended for a maximum five-year period.
