Bangalore: Dell Technologies recently reached its target of positively impacting 2 million citizens through the Mobile Solar Community Hubs initiative in India. Launched last year, these technology-enabled hubs equipped with laptops, television screens, solar panels, and 4G internet hotspots aim to provide digital skills to communities.
In collaboration with the Common Service Centres Scheme (CSC), Dell and Learning Links Foundation deployed solar-powered hubs in six districts, benefiting students, youth, and women with training in digital and financial literacy, technical skills, entrepreneurship, and career guidance.
Dell will extend the program to five additional districts:
- – Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand)
- – Ramgarh (Jharkhand)
- – Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh)
- – Pathankot (Punjab)
- – Gurugram (Haryana)
The initiative also focuses on upskilling and empowering 200 ex-servicemen and retiring junior-ranked personnel of the Indian Armed Forces. The hubs will support military personnel’s wards and 4,000 students at defence schools by introducing them to digital skills such as coding and block programming.
Alok Ohrie, President and Managing Director of Dell Technologies India, emphasised the importance of addressing the digital divide, stating, “Partnering with the government over the years in various activities has helped drive transformational change and address the digital divide.”
Archana Sahay, Regional Giving Manager at Dell Technologies, highlighted the collaborative goal to achieve digital equity, ensuring underrepresented communities are equipped for full participation in society and the economy.
Nuriya Ansari of Learning Links Foundation expressed the critical role of the expansion plan in transforming the lives of rural communities and ex-servicemen, aiming to provide diverse career opportunities and choices.
