New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed its tech plan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections during a press conference on Saturday. The ECI introduced a suite of 27 apps and portals catering to various stakeholders.
Among the key initiatives is the Voter Help App (VHA) which will cater to the voter’s convenience. The VHA will allow users to apply for forms online, verify their names on the voter list, access polling booth details, connect with relevant officials, and download e-EPIC.
The commission introduced the cVigil app, a platform that will facilitate the recording, reporting, and resolution of violations of the model code of conduct. The commission guaranteed a response within 100 minutes to all complaints lodged through the cVigil app. The app allows anonymous reporting to the complainants.
Additionally, the ECI launched a KYC portal and app to empower voters with information. Through this platform, voters will be able to access candidates’ affidavits, including details on criminal antecedents, to make informed voting decisions.
To provide equal opportunities to candidates, the commission introduced an online portal for filing nominations and affidavits. This portal will also serve as a platform for candidates to seek permission for campaign activities such as rallies and meetings.
Addressing concerns about misinformation, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar discussed proactive measures to combat fake news. He said, “Tackling misinformation in today’s digital age is complex. We have put certain measures in place to ensure misinformation is nipped in the bud. We’re proactive in debunking fake news. Originators of fake news to be dealt with severely as per extant laws.”
He reminded people of the mantra “Verify Before You Amplify” and recommended that people rely on authoritative sources to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
