New Delhi: The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) collaborated with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations to host a workshop titled “Cultivating Tomorrow: Advancing Digital Agriculture through IoT and AI.”
Their effort was enabled by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India.
The workshop took place on March 18, 2024, at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), ICAR in New Delhi. An estimated 200 delegates, including international participants, attended the workshop. They shared their insights in the field of Agriculture 4.0, which is expected to transform farming practices globally.
The workshop examined the utilisation of Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and other advanced technologies throughout the agricultural value chain, from production to consumption, encompassing post-harvest management and marketing. The aim is to showcase how these technologies can empower farmers with real-time data, predictive analytics, and actionable insights.
The workshop also released a Technical Report on “Revolutionising Agriculture: The Digital Transformation of Farming.” The report is expected to serve as a valuable resource for agricultural stakeholders, offering guidance to decision-makers on how to harness technology to improve sustainability, efficiency, and resilience in food production.
