Delhi: All private schools have been mandated to observe summer vacations till June 30, the Delhi government announced as a response to severe heatwave conditions in the capital.
Delhi Government’s circular read, “All the Heads of Schools of DoE were directed to observe Summer Vacation from 11.05.2024 (Sunday) to 30.06.2024 (Sunday) for the Academic Year 2024-25. However, it has been observed that some of the government-aided and unaided recognised private schools are still open during ongoing severe heat waves.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted extreme temperatures in Delhi this year. As a result, 50 days of summer break was declared by the city to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Neighbouring states like Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, also recently declared school closures due to temperatures soaring past 40 degrees Celsius in several areas. According to the latest update, schools in Haryana will reopen on July 1, 2024, while those in Punjab and Rajasthan will reopen on June 30, 2024.
