Mumbai: Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) India Limited has collaborated with the Maharashtra government to develop six pumped hydro storage projects with a total capacity of 6,790 MW, amounting to a total investment of Rs. 33,600 crore. The initiative will enable THDC to tap the unutilized potential of pumped storage projects in Maharashtra.
Under the agreement, the entities will conduct surveys, and investigations, and prepare detailed project reports. In addition, they will ensure that the projects are established in a time-bound manner. The six planned projects under the MoU are:
- Malshej Ghat pumped storage project with a capacity of 700 MW.
- Aruna project with a capacity of 1,950 MW.
- Kharari Project with a capacity of 1,250 MW.
- Humbarli Birmani Project with a capacity of 1,000 MW.
- Aruna Colamb Project with a capacity of 12,00 MW.
- Morawadi Majarewadi Project with a capacity of 690 MW.
As part of the collaboration, the Maharashtra government will ensure proper water allocation necessary for the initial filling and annual consumptive requirements of the project. THDC will prepare detailed project reports and submit them to the Central Electricity Authority and Maharastra’s Department of Water Resources for approval.
