New Delhi: ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has announced the appointment of Bimal Khandelwal as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for STT GDC India, effective October 5, 2024. Khandelwal succeeds Sumit Mukhija, who has decided to step down to pursue personal interests after leading the data center business since 2016.
Khandelwal, previously the Chief Financial Officer for STT GDC India, has been with the company for seven years, contributing significantly to its growth. His extensive experience in the telecommunications sector includes roles at Idea Cellular, Aircel (Maxis Group), Tata Teleservices, and Birla Sun Life.
In a recent statement, the company outlined plans to invest $3.2 billion to increase its data center capacity in India by 550 megawatts. This move aligns with the growing demand for digital infrastructure in the country, driven by advancements in technology and a surge in data consumption. The leadership transition comes at a crucial time as the data center industry in India is poised for significant expansion. Khandelwal’s strategic vision will be essential for navigating this evolving landscape.
