Bengaluru: Nagaland’s government has teamed up with Tata AIA Life Insurance to roll out a life insurance scheme aimed at the state’s working residents. The new Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMULIS) will provide INR 2 lakh in coverage for those between 18 and 60 years old, with the state covering the premium.
The scheme targets families whose main earners work in unorganized sectors or belong to low-income groups. Eligible residents can name one family member as the breadwinner, ensuring some financial support if they pass away. Government employees in this age range will be automatically enrolled.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio shared that the goal is to make life insurance accessible for more people, especially those who may not have coverage. Tata AIA’s CEO, Venky Iyer, mentioned that the initiative aims to reach around 3.5 lakh people in Nagaland. The collaboration is intended to provide a financial safety net for families, especially in tough times.
