New Delhi: India and Colombia have signed an Audio-Visual Co-Production Agreement to enhance collaboration in film production. The agreement was signed by Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, and Mr. Jorge Enrique Rojas Rodriguez, Colombia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia to India. With this, Colombia becomes the 17th country to partner with India under such a framework, joining countries like Italy, Germany, Canada, and Australia.
The agreement aims to strengthen creative, artistic, and financial collaborations, benefiting producers by pooling resources and exchanging cultural art forms. It is expected to promote India’s soft power and generate employment in the film industry. Additionally, it will result in increased shooting of international films in India which will boost the country’s visibility as a global filming destination.
India’s incentives for official co-productions now offer up to 40% reimbursement for expenses incurred domestically, with a maximum incentive of ₹300 million. Colombia’s participation in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, starting November 20, further highlights the deepening cultural ties. In February 2025, India will also host the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), marking a major convergence of traditional and new media industries.
