Bengaluru: Intel and AMD announced a new x86 Ecosystem Advisory Group to guide the future of x86, the computing architecture that powers most PCs and data centers. The group aims to make x86 more compatible across platforms, easier for developers to work with, and ready for the next wave of computing needs.
With AI, custom chips, and new tech on the rise, both companies see the need for a more unified approach to x86. By bringing together leaders in the tech industry, they hope to address the architecture’s current challenges and ensure it stays relevant.
Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger and AMD’s CEO Lisa Su stressed the importance of this collaboration. They said the group will work to create consistent x86 standards and gather input from hardware and software developers on what features are needed.
Intel and AMD have collaborated before on standards like PCIe and USB, and this new group continues that tradition. The goal is to ensure x86 remains adaptable, so it can keep up with new demands across different sectors, from cloud to embedded devices. The companies want to enhance customer choice and keep x86 at the core of computing for years to come.
