Srinagar: Omar Abdullah has taken charge as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. This marks a significant event for the union territory as it witnesses the formation of its first elected government after six years. Additionally, Surinder Singh Choudhary has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister, representing Jammu in the new cabinet.
This will be Abdullah’s second stint as the CM. He previously served on the post from 2009 to 2014 when J&K was a state and was ruled by the National Conference-Congress Alliance.
The oath to Abdullah was administered by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre. The ceremony was attended by senior leaders of the INDIA Bloc including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, party Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, DMK member Kanimozhi, and NCP member Supriya Sule.
