Well-known Indian e-commerce marketplace Meesho has made significant strides in combating online fraud through its initiative called ‘Project Vishwas’.
The company stated that over the past year, the platform has prevented more than 2.2 crore suspicious transactions, blocked 77 lakh scam attempts, and thwarted 13 lakh bot orders.
The second edition of Meesho’s ‘Trust Assurance Report’, released on Monday, highlights the company’s efforts to enhance security and user trust. By leveraging advanced technologies, partnering with risk intelligence experts, and maintaining a dedicated trust and safety team, Meesho continues to position itself as a secure platform for customers and sellers.

“By leveraging advanced technologies, collaborating with specialized agencies and consultants as well as conducting rigorous on-ground audits, we are trying to stay ahead of the curve in fraud prevention. To effectively combat these frauds, we also have a dedicated trust and safety team focused on building and maintaining user trust,” he noted.
Legal Action and Proactive Measures
Meesho has worked closely with law enforcement to address fraudulent activities. It led a proactive investigation into account takeover fraud, resulting in nine FIRs against over 40 suspects in Kolkata and Ranchi, with a 98% success rate in resolving such cases. The company has also tackled lottery fraud, reducing incidents by 75% since October 2023 through on-ground investigations and legal actions, including three FIRs against offenders.

To support customers facing fraud-related issues, Meesho has established a Quick Response Team of 25 experts, providing app-based assistance within five minutes. The company has also dismantled over 18,000 fraudulent social media accounts and 130 fake websites or apps impersonating its brand. Legal measures include securing a Delhi High Court order to deactivate dubious websites and investigate associated fraudulent activities.
