Noida: Paytm has introduced UPI International, allowing Indian travellers to make cashless payments in six countries, including the UAE, France, Singapore, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal. The feature lets users pay at international merchant outlets by scanning UPI-enabled QR codes using the Paytm app.
Travellers can activate the service through a one-time setup linked to their bank account. The activation process begins automatically when a UPI-enabled QR code is scanned abroad. Users can choose to enable the feature for their trip duration, anywhere between 1 and 90 days and deactivate it upon returning to India, ensuring better control and security.
Paytm’s app also provides real-time information on foreign exchange rates and conversion fees for greater transparency. A UPI statement download feature further helps users track and manage their spending during international travel.
This launch is part of Paytm’s efforts to address the growing need for secure cashless payment options for Indian travellers. The feature supports payments for a wide range of activities, including dining, shopping, and other expenses, simplifying transactions abroad.
UPI International adds to Paytm’s existing features like UPI Lite for small transactions, RuPay credit card linking, and peer-to-peer payments. By enabling international UPI payments, Paytm contributes to the expanding global footprint of India’s digital payments infrastructure.
This development highlights UPI’s growing adoption and its potential as a reliable payment option for Indians traveling overseas. This move also underscores the increasing global recognition of India’s digital payment systems, paving the way for further international collaborations.
