New Delhi: The Delhi government has launched the Business Blasters Senior Programme to promote entrepreneurship among students in universities and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Announced on Tuesday by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, the programme aims to provide students with resources and support to develop their business ideas into viable ventures.
Atishi stated that while institutions such as Ambedkar University, Netaji Subhas University of Technology, and the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Delhi have strong placement records, the initiative seeks to shift focus from job-seeking to job creation. “This programme is designed to help students take entrepreneurial risks and contribute to India’s economy by becoming job creators,” she said.
The programme builds on the existing Business Blasters initiative for government schools, which has supported students in developing start-up ideas. Highlighting previous successes, Atishi cited examples such as a logistics start-up by a student employing 50 people and another who developed a Bluetooth speaker idea that attracted investor interest.
Under the new programme, university and ITI students will receive seed funding of ₹50,000 per team to transform their business ideas into start-ups. The funding is intended to provide students with hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.
The launch event included a panel discussion featuring alumni from the school-level Business Blasters initiative. These former participants shared how initial seed funding of ₹2,000 helped them create sustainable ventures.
The Delhi government aims to expand the programme’s impact by integrating it into higher education, enabling students to access resources and mentorship for entrepreneurial growth. Officials believe the initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of fostering innovation and strengthening its global economic position.
The move reflects a growing trend in India’s education policy to encourage practical skills and entrepreneurship among students, with an emphasis on reducing dependence on traditional employment opportunities.
