Sikkim: In a landmark collaboration, IIT Ropar’s iHub-AWaDH, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, joined hands with the Centre for Computers and Communication Technology (CCCT), Chisopani, Sikkim, to inaugurate the first-ever AWaDH Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Lab in Northeast India.
Located in Sikkim, this facility aims to revolutionize technical education, innovation, and skill development in the region. It is established at Sikkim’s oldest polytechnic college, CCCT, known for its pioneering contributions to education and technology. The lab serves as a platform for education, research, prototyping, and testing. Equipped with advanced tools such as IoT kits, AI and ML workstations, environmental sensors, and Terafac Technologies’ advanced modules, the lab offers 24/7 experimentation opportunities. It aims to integrate CPS into CCCT’s curriculum and act as a hub for CPS training across Sikkim.
The inauguration witnessed an illustrious gathering of dignitaries, including Mr. Sarsij Saurabh, GM, BSNL Sikkim; Dr. Suman Kumar of IIT Ropar; and Dr. Radhika Trikha, Chief Executive Manager, AWaDH, alongside other notable officials from education, skill development, and MSME sectors. The initiative aims to empower students, researchers, and startups with skills in IoT, AI, and CPS through tailored training programs, including ‘train the trainers’ modules. Highlighting the lab’s vision, Dr. Trikha emphasized its potential to foster innovation and skill development, paving the way for a sustainable R&D ecosystem in the region.
This venture signifies a vital step in enhancing the technological capabilities of Northeast India, making Sikkim a key player in the nation’s CPS landscape.
