Barmer: In a significant step toward improving the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) process, Barmer District Collector IAS Tina Dabi and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) IAS Siddharth Palanichamy launched the ‘MY NREGA App’. The app, developed under the leadership of the Zila Parishad CEO, aims to make the employment demand process more efficient, allowing MNREGA workers to apply for jobs from their homes instead of visiting Gram Panchayats.
The app was officially introduced at Daruda Gram Panchayat, with MNREGA Commissioner Pushpa Satyani and Additional Commissioner Jugalkishore Meena joining the event virtually via video conferencing. Both officials praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to be replicated across other districts in India to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of rural employment schemes.
Simplifying the Employment Process for MNREGA Workers
Until now, MNREGA workers had to physically visit their Gram Panchayats to submit Form No. 6 for employment requests, often facing delays due to bureaucratic processes. With the introduction of the MY NREGA App, workers can now apply for jobs digitally, eliminating the need for travel and paperwork. The app allows for real-time tracking of applications and ensures faster processing at the district level.
User-Friendly Features and Pilot Testing
The app, using which any family member can apply for work on behalf of others, was developed with a user-friendly interface. IAS Siddharth stated that the app would be tested in five Gram Panchayats before a broader rollout across the district.
The launch event saw enthusiastic participation from local MNREGA workers, particularly women, who downloaded the app from the Play Store and submitted their employment applications.
How the App Works:
Download & Login- Workers can download the MY NREGA App from the Google Play Store. They can log in using their registered mobile number and a one-time password (OTP).
Apply for Work- The app allows workers to scan the QR code on their job card and apply for employment. One family member can submit applications for multiple members, making the process more inclusive.
Monitoring & Updates- Applications will be tracked in real-time at the district level and the workers will receive SMS updates on the status of their job requests. A QR code verification system will ensure authenticity and security in job applications.
Digitizing Rural Welfare for Greater Efficiency: APAC News Analysis
The MY NREGA App represents a major leap forward in digitizing rural welfare programs. By enabling direct job applications through a mobile interface, the initiative reduces delays and ensures greater transparency in MNREGA implementation.
From a broader perspective, this digital intervention aligns with India’s push toward e-governance and rural digitization. The integration of real-time tracking, QR-based verification, and SMS notifications addresses key inefficiencies in the MNREGA process. If successfully implemented, Barmer’s MY NREGA App could serve as a model for other districts, demonstrating how technology can empower rural workers and enhance access to employment opportunities.
