Bengaluru: The Central Government has chosen V Narayanan to be the next Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space for two years. He is set to take charge starting January 14 and will succeed S Somnath, the current ISRO Chief. Narayanan is currently the head of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Valiamala.
V Narayanan: A Visionary Leader
Narayanan brings decades of experience in propulsion systems and space technology to his new role. As the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), he was at the forefront of developing cryogenic propulsion technology critical for India’s space programs. He also serves as the Chairman of the Project Management Council- Space Transportation System (PMC-STS), the decision-making body for all launch vehicle projects. Additionally, he is also the Chairman of the National Level Human Rated Certification Board for Gaganyaan.
His leadership qualities and deep technical knowledge are expected to drive ISRO’s strategic vision for the next decade.
Focus on Upcoming Missions and Strengthening Collaboration
Under Narayanan’s leadership, ISRO is gearing up for several high-profile missions, including Gaganyaan, India’s first manned space mission. Furthermore, as space exploration becomes increasingly collaborative, Narayanan’s role will involve fostering stronger international partnerships. ISRO has been at the forefront of such collaborations, and with Narayanan’s experience, India is expected to further cement its relationships with space agencies like NASA, ESA, and JAXA.

S. Somanath, who served as ISRO Chairman since 2022, leaves behind an impressive legacy, including the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission and advancements in satellite technology. His tenure solidified India’s position as a global leader in space exploration. V. Narayanan, with his extensive experience and expertise, is expected to carry forward this momentum, focusing on both upcoming ambitious missions and enhancing ISRO’s global collaborations.
