New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of senior IPS officer Rajesh Nirwan as the Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Nirwan’s appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge and will continue until further orders.
A 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Nirwan brings a wealth of experience in law enforcement and security management. BCAS, the key agency responsible for aviation security across India, plays a critical role in ensuring safety standards in line with international protocols and preventing unlawful interference in civil aviation operations.
Originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Nirwan holds qualifications as a Chartered Accountant and MBA and has also pursued a Master’s in Police Management. His career began with his posting as Superintendent of Police (SP), CID (CB), Jaipur, followed by roles as police chief in Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Kota.
In 2007, he was promoted to Deputy Inspector General of Police, serving a two-year tenure at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He became Inspector General (IG) of Police in 2010 and led the Ajmer Range till 2012.
From 2016 to 2023, Nirwan held senior leadership positions as IG and Additional Director General of Police in the Border Security Force (BSF), New Delhi. His extensive background in security operations is expected to strengthen aviation security measures in the country.
