New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has announced significant upgrades to its Amrit Bharat Version 2.0 trains, targeting low- and middle-income families. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that 50 such trains will be manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) over the next two years.
The new version of the train incorporates 12 major improvements over its predecessor, which was launched in January 2024.
Some of the Notable Enhancements Include:
- Semi-automatic couplers for easier train operations
- Modular toilets for better hygiene
- Improved chair pillars and partitions for passenger safety and comfort
- Emergency talk-back and braking systems for enhanced security
- Continuous lighting similar to Vande Bharat trains
- Ergonomically designed seats and berths
- Redesigned pantry cars to offer better service to passengers during long-distance travel
Affordable Travel for All
The trains are specifically designed to cater to the needs of low-income and lower-middle-income families. Vaishnaw stated that these trains aim to provide an affordable yet high-quality travel experience, ensuring comfort even for the “poorest of the poor.”
The Railway Minister lauded the ICF team for their dedication and innovation in manufacturing the new trains. He highlighted that the improvements were based on feedback and experiences from the first version, reflecting the government’s responsiveness to passenger needs.
