Imphal: Prashant Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Manipur, replacing Vineet Joshi. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Singh’s repatriation to his parent cadre in Manipur, where he will assume the role of the state’s top bureaucrat.
A 1993-batch IAS officer, Singh brings with him an extensive portfolio of administrative and governance experience. His appointment follows the elevation of former Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi as Higher Education Secretary at the Centre. Singh’s most recent role was as Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, where he spearheaded several initiatives to advance India’s renewable energy goals.
Throughout his illustrious career, Singh has held several key positions, including serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), a transformative initiative under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. His academic credentials are equally notable, with a degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and a master’s in Public Policy and Sustainable Development from TERI University.
Singh’s return to Manipur comes at a critical time as the state faces ethnic tensions and political unrest. His leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering stability and addressing the pressing challenges confronting the state.
