Kolkata: The West Bengal Transport Department is planning to launch a mobile app to Track negligent driving by bus drivers.
While celebrating the Road Safety Week in Salt Lake yesterday, the State Transport Minister Snehashish Chakraborty informed the mobile app will keep track of all drivers belonging to both privately operated buses as well as state-run buses.
The app is expected to check the speed at which the driver is driving the bus and whether he is violating any traffic rule and regulation.
The driver will be warned in case of the first violation. Subsequent violations will lead to cancellation of driving license, warned Chakraborty.
The app is expected to go live in the next few days and each bus driver is being mandated to maintain the app.
The app will track the driver who is driving, the speed at which he is driving, track whether he is adhering to speed limits and whether he is following the SOPs for bus operation.
The Minister also informed that the notification on varying speeds has already been issued by the Chief Secretary and a declaration on the maximum speeds permissible on different stretches of the roads will be released soon.
The Minister also claimed that the Safe Drive Save Live campaign since 2018 has reduced accidents on the roads as well as deaths due to accidents. In fact, Kolkata ranks much less than other Metros on accidental deaths on roads.
