The West Bengal government has decided to enhance its engagement with the Border Security Force (BSF) to strengthen the security arrangements across the India Bangladesh border.
The state shares a long international border with Bangladesh spanning across several districts from North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Malda, North and South Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri.
The State Cabinet in a meeting yesterday have decided to allocate 0.9 acres of land to the BSF in Karimpur in Nadia to create an outpost.
This was discussed even at the meetings of East Zone Security Council where discussions were held to increase the number of outposts and deploy more modern surveillance technologies especially in light of increasing disturbances at the border after the turmoil in Bangladesh.
The outpost for BSF has become even more critical since bunkers wete discovered at the India Bangladesh border in Nadia district itself.
With the Bangladesh border situation currently so volatile, the state government has also decided to set up two Special Task Force police outposts – one in Siliguri and the other one in Nabadiganta in Kolkata.
The State Home Department has decided to create 40 special positions especially for these two STF outposts.
