Mumbai: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology inaugurated India’s first-of-its-kind Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Mega Innovation Complex in Mumbai through virtual mode. The state-of-the-art facility, dedicated to start-ups and industry stakeholders, marks a significant milestone in the country’s innovation landscape.
The Innovation Complex spans nine floors and houses 24 ready-to-move incubation labs, furnished office spaces, and networking zones designed to cater to innovative start-ups, MSMEs, industry partners, and CSIR labs. The facility aims to provide high-end scientific infrastructure, expertise, and regulatory support to stakeholders for conducting SOP-driven studies required for regulatory compliance and submissions.
The facility has been designed to foster collaboration between start-ups, MSMEs, and CSIR’s network of researchers and innovators. It aims to bridge the gap between advanced science and its application to address real-world challenges. The Innovation Complex will support critical industrial sectors such as healthcare (pharma, biopharma, medtech), chemicals, materials, energy, and others relevant to CSIR labs, thereby contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the role of the facility in catalyzing faster technology transfers and addressing needs from lab-to-regulator and regulator-to-industry domains. He emphasized that the facility’s infrastructure, including world-class incubation labs and IP/business development support, will enable start-ups, MSMEs, and industry stakeholders to achieve regulatory compliance efficiently. According to the minister, the CSIR Innovation Complex represents a giant leap forward for CSIR and strengthens India’s position as a global leader in science and technology.
The inauguration event witnessed the participation of industry leaders, foreign delegates from Norway, Switzerland, and Germany, and over 1,000 scientists from CSIR labs across India. Dr. V.K. Saraswat and Dr. V.K. Paul, Members of NITI Aayog, and Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary of DSIR and DG CSIR, also attended the event.
This initiative reinforces India’s commitment to fostering an ecosystem that supports innovation, industry, and scientific excellence, driving the nation towards a future of self-reliance and global leadership in technology and innovation.
