Amazon acknowledged that it is laying off about 200 workers in its North America retail segment.
Amazon’s private label brands, Prime membership program, and consumables business are just a few of the many divisions that make up its main retail operation, which it also calls its shops division.
“We’ve adjusted parts of our North America Stores team because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. “As part of these changes, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we’re committed to supporting affected employees through their transition.”
According to the spokeswoman, among those laid off were workers in the fashion and fitness industries. The job layoffs were previously covered by Business Insider.
Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, has reduced expenses throughout the organisation by firing over 27,000 workers since the start of 2022. Although they have been occurring on a smaller scale, the majority of the employment losses occurred in 2022 and 2023 and have affected practically every company in its portfolio.
