Guwahati: The Assam government has approved the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025, aiming to expand renewable energy production and attract investments in solar, wind, hydro, and green hydrogen projects. The policy focuses on diversifying the state’s energy mix and improving grid stability through pumped storage and battery energy storage systems.
Major Policy Approvals
The policy outlines incentives to encourage private sector participation in clean energy projects. It includes provisions for the development of biofuel, green hydrogen, and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure to support the state’s energy transition.
In a key move, the Cabinet has cleared a 250 MW solar project by approving the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) Board’s decision to issue a Letter of Acceptance to successful bidders. The government has also sanctioned common infrastructure development for solar parks under the “Mukhya Mantri Sauro Shakti Prokolpo.”
Push for Energy Diversification
Apart from solar projects, Assam is prioritizing small hydro and wind energy projects to ensure a stable renewable power supply. The inclusion of pumped storage and battery energy storage systems is expected to address grid stability challenges, particularly with intermittent renewable sources.
The state is also focusing on green hydrogen and biofuel development to open new avenues for clean energy production. Investments in electric vehicle infrastructure will complement these initiatives by supporting the shift towards sustainable transportation.
