New Delhi: IIM Sambalpur has collaborated with US-based Breakout Learning Inc. to integrate AI-driven digital case study solutions into its MBA, Executive MBA, and Ph.D. programs. The partnership comes amid India’s growing focus on AI in education, following the government’s announcement of a ₹500 crore investment in AI Centers of Excellence.
AI in Management Education
This collaboration will enable IIM Sambalpur to adopt AI-enabled case-based learning, allowing students and faculty access to premium case studies from institutions like Harvard and Ivey. The initiative aims to modernize management education by replacing traditional teaching methods with AI-driven interactive learning experiences.
Under the agreement, faculty and students will also contribute to developing AI-powered management case studies, hosted on Breakout Learning’s platform. Intellectual property rights for these cases will be jointly held, with faculty receiving discounted access for teaching and research purposes.
Challenges in Indian Business Schools
IIM Sambalpur Director, Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, highlighted the need for such initiatives, stating that Indian business schools struggle with global rankings due to limited faculty research output. “With AI integration, faculty will have more time for research and case writing, which can improve academic contributions and help Indian institutions gain global recognition,” he said.
Implementation and Financial Model
Breakout Learning will provide technical support for integrating its platform into IIM Sambalpur’s curriculum. Financial agreements, including access fees and case development royalties, will be structured separately to ensure long-term sustainability. The initiative marks a step towards AI-driven business education in India, aligning with the country’s broader efforts to incorporate advanced technologies in learning.
