New Delhi: SS Innovations has introduced India’s first mobile tele-surgical unit, SSI MantraM, at the Second Global SSI Multi-Specialty Robotic Surgery Conference (SMRSC) 2025 in Gurgaon. The unit aims to expand access to robotic-assisted surgery in remote areas, integrating real-time telesurgery capabilities with high-speed connectivity.
Robotic Surgery Expands to Remote Areas
The SSI MantraM unit is designed to provide robotic-assisted surgical care in underserved regions. It integrates the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System with telecommunication and satellite connectivity, allowing expert surgeons to operate remotely with minimal latency. The system also supports tele-mentoring and surgical training, enabling real-time collaboration between on-site and remote surgical teams.
As part of the conference, a telesurgery was performed across 1,700 km—from SS Innovations Headquarters in Gurgaon to Aster CMI Hospital in Bangalore. Surgical oncologist Prof. Dr. Somashekhar S P conducted the procedure remotely, while Dr. Kushal Agrawal assisted on-site, demonstrating the potential of telesurgery in improving access to specialized care.
Experts Discuss Future of Robotic Surgery
The event brought together over 1,200 medical professionals, including 150+ leading experts. Speakers included:
- Dr. Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist and futurist, who discussed how AI, quantum computing, and robotics could transform surgery.
- Sonam Wangchuk, innovator and education reformist, who emphasized the role of technology and infrastructure in healthcare access.
- Dr. Fredric Moll, known as the “Father of Surgical Robotics,” who spoke about the evolution of robotic surgery and future innovations.
