New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has joined hands with Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI, a full-stack Generative AI (GenAI) company, to enhance the user experience for Aadhaar services.
This collaboration aims to introduce AI-powered voice-based interactions and real-time fraud detection, making Aadhaar-related processes more efficient and accessible.
AI-Enabled Voice Assistance for Aadhaar Services
Effective from 18 March, Sarvam AI’s technology will facilitate voice-based interactions for residents seeking Aadhaar-related services. This AI solution will provide near real-time feedback on the enrollment and update processes, helping identify issues such as overcharging.
By leveraging AI-powered voice support, UIDAI aims to streamline the experience for Aadhaar number holders and improve service efficiency.
One of the key features of this initiative is the introduction of real-time fraud detection alerts. The AI system will monitor authentication requests and flag suspicious activities, ensuring an additional layer of security for Aadhaar users.
This proactive approach aligns with UIDAI’s commitment to safeguarding resident data and preventing misuse of Aadhaar credentials.
Multilingual Support & Data Security
Recognizing India’s linguistic diversity, the AI solution will initially support voice interactions and fraud detection in ten languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, and Malayalam.
UIDAI has indicated that more languages will be incorporated in the coming months to enhance accessibility for a broader user base.
Sarvam AI has developed a customized GenAI stack that is hosted on-premise within UIDAI’s air-gapped infrastructure, ensuring that no data leaves UIDAI’s secure environment.
This measure upholds stringent data sovereignty and security protocols, reinforcing UIDAI’s commitment to resident data protection.
Public-Private-Partnership
The partnership with Sarvam AI was made possible through UIDAI’s volunteer policy, which fosters collaboration with industry leaders. Volunteers from Sarvam AI worked closely with UIDAI’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru to develop and implement the GenAI solution, with UIDAI retaining ownership of the technology. The agreement is initially valid for one year, with the possibility of an extension for an additional year.
Speaking on the initiative, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar stated, “UIDAI is a people-centric organization. GenAI is the next technological evolution in UIDAI’s journey as a technology pioneer, building on our long-standing commitment to innovation for facilitating ease of living.”
Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are privileged to collaborate with UIDAI. This engagement exemplifies the immense potential of AI to drive public good.”
This partnership marks a significant step in UIDAI’s efforts to integrate AI-driven solutions for improving Aadhaar services while ensuring security, efficiency, and accessibility for millions of users across India.
